What Makes Bullshit So Appealing?
Why do people believe conspiracy theories? Why do people trust in "alternative" medicine? Why do people think hypnotism works? Why do people invent things like "religion", which is essentially the epitome of legitimized, institutionalized bullshit?
What is it that makes the most unlikely argument the more appealing one? When people are faced with scarce evidence, why do they *always* violate Ockham's Razor and chose the logical path of most resistance?
Apparently a lot of Catholics have their panties in a bunch about the new "Da Vinci Code" movie (being released here this Friday). I haven't read the book, but from what I've gathered, it makes the allegation that Jesus Christ married and had children with Mary Magdalene (Wikipedia, if you don't know who these people are). It also alleges that the Catholic Church and the group "Opus Dei" have since been covering up this "truth" about Jesus Christ (and his descendants) and have been killing off anyone who garners onto the real story... Sounds a lot like Area 51 crap to me.
It says some pretty mean stuff about the Catholic Church, but I still don't really get why they're so pissed. They're made fun of in so many movies and books that it isn't even funny... Anyone seen "The Godfather"?
The real group called Opus Dei is particularly unimpressed. They say that the new movie should carry a "health warning". A "health warning"? Is thinking dangerous to your health? Is hearing a different opinion dangerous to your health? Is watching a conspiracy theory movie dangerous to your health? Link.
Maybe if you'll believe anything to begin with. I suppose you're only going to buy into the Da Vinci code if you already believe the crap in the bible.

Oh right, and "Pray to our gods and your diseases will be healed and you'll go to heaven!" is completely honest and sound marketing based entirely on empirical scientific research.

These people really will believe anything. Don't you think Opus dei may have done something about big bad old Dan Brown, if they really were so powerful and evil?
Never mind. The Catholic Church, and religion in general, has been preying off the gullibility of your average idiot for a long time now. They are merely receiving a taste of their own medicine. I salute Dan Brown; his lies are evidently far more interesting than your conventional Christian lies.

There's a bit more to the story of the Vatican's reaction than most are yet aware of. Read my analysis below to understand what they truly fear.

It's not the DaVinci Code or Gospel of Judas per se, but the fact that people have been motivated to seek out the unequivocal truth about an age of deception, exactly when they expect me to appear. The Gospel of Judas and DaVinci Code controversies are allowing people to take new stock of the Vatican/Papacy and the religions it has spawned. It also shines a bright spotlight on the undeniable symbolic content of these texts and traditions and that path leads to the exposure of ages-old religious deceptions. Seek to understand the symbolic significance of my name (Seven Star Hand) and you will have proof beyond disproof that Christians have long been duped by the great deceivers I warned humanity about over the millennia.
It is quite a joke that the Vatican and Catholic Church have the gall to accuse the author of a novel of attacking their fantasies and dogma. Remember that this is the same organization that manufactured fake relics and miracles for many centuries. This is the same group that massacred and tortured people for seeking the truth and having a mind of their own. This is the same group of deluded deceivers that makes more noise about a fictional book and movie than about child raping priests, aids, famine, or even the Holocaust! At what point does the Vatican's behavior go from the absurd to simply purely evil?
It is undeniable the New Testament is framed by symbolism and allegory. The same is evidenced in the Dead Sea Scrolls, Gnostic texts, biblical apocrypha, and other related texts. All ancient religious, mystical, and wisdom texts have been shrouded in mystery for millennia for one primary reason: The ability to understand their widely evidenced symbology was lost in antiquity. How do we finally solve these ages-old mysteries? To recast an often-used political adage: It’s [the] symbology, stupid!
It's amazing the Vatican still tries to insist the Gospels are literal truth. It is beyond obvious they are replete with ancient Hebrew symbology. Every miracle purported for Jesus has multiple direct symbolic parallels in the Old Testament, Apocalypse, Dead Sea Scrolls, and other symbolic narratives and traditions.
Likewise, the following Washington Post article ( The Book of Bart) describes how many changes and embellishments were made to these texts over the centuries, unequivocally demonstrating they are not original, infallible, or truthful.
What then is the purpose of "faith" but to keep good people from seeking to understand truth and wisdom? It's no wonder the Vatican fears the truth more than anything else. Now comes justice, hot on its heels... (symbolism...)

As a followup to your blog title, I invite you to study and contemplate the Doctrine of Two Spirits on my Home Page and book cover. These religions grew out of a combination of an ancient failure to understand and appreciate the full import and value of wisdom coupled with the efforts of greedy scoundrels to take advantage of the ignorant by confounding and recasting wisdom into hero worship and religion. Now comes the "time" that ancient wisdom will be "rediscovered" and religion "destroyed." That is the true focus of the ancient prophecies and the true meaning and import of the word Apocalypse. That is also why the Vatican fears people learning the truth about the symbology in the Bible and elsewhere. It decodes to expose their great evil and deception.
