Islamic Life Lessons

Here are a few choice excerpts from an interview with Iraqi Ayatollah Ahmad Husseini Al-Baghdadi, which recently aired on both Al-Jazeera and Syrian state-run television. Link.

Sometimes Islam doesn't need anyone to criticize it - it does all the talking itself.

"But there are jurisprudents, both Sunnis and Twelver Shi'ites, who have said that the presence of the Infallible is not a prerequisite. If the objective and subjective circumstances materialize, and there are soldiers, weapons, and money - even if this means using biological, chemical, and bacterial weapons - we will conquer the world, so that 'There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah' will be triumphant over the domes of Moscow, Washington, and Paris."

There you have it. The Islamists don't even need their god to help them kill people - they're doing all on their own.

"Car bomb attacks are carried out by the Israeli Mossad and by the CIA in purely Shi'ite areas, as well as in purely Sunni areas. Hence, this is not a sectarian issue, as has been claimed in order to distort the image of the resistance. These car bombs and explosives belts, in Shi'ite religious centers, in mosques, and in churches, are all a game, planned by the Americans, in order to distort the image of the national and Islamic resistance."

"This Arab Islamic nation must obtain a nuclear bomb. Without a nuclear bomb, we will continue to be oppressed, and the American destruction... The American donkeyness... The American donkey itself will always continue to attack us, because the Americans are very conceited."

With a nuclear bomb, you will be wiped off the face of the planet. I suppose these guys consider that an improvement...

"It is inconceivable that the Arab mujahideen or the Iraqi resistance would kill children, women, and men. The resistance targets American tanks and bases. Those operations are carried out by the American CIA and fifth column."

"The Americans are the ones who are doing the killing in the so-called Sunni Triangle, or in Al-Latifiya."

"These collaborators and America should know that I support the resistance. I will fight the American tanks alongside the resistance, because the Iraqi people is an Arab Islamic people that will not accept the rule of an infidel over a Muslim. Never."

Muslims can do no wrong. Unless they disagree with this guy, of course. But then they probably aren't Muslim anymore...

"The second clause says no law may contradict the principles of democracy. Can you imagine millions demonstrating in Iraq, calling for same-sex marriage, like in Sweden, America, and Britain? Same-sex marriages means a marriage of a man with a man, or a woman with a woman. This is a terrible catastrophe, totally forbidden by Islam. Whoever marries someone of the same sex must be killed. Both must be killed as soon as possible and must be burned as well."

Burned too? That's pretty serious.

If Hitler had been a Muslim, he would have been best buddies with this guy.

Hitler didn't need to be a Muslim to be friends with that sort of guy; fascism and Islamism seem to have more than enough in common anyway.

Just look at the example of Amin al-Husayni (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amin_al-Husayni), the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem in WWII. Not only did he publically support Hitler's extermination of the Jews and visit Germany to offer his support, but he helped recruit Muslims to serve in the SS in the Balkans.

He is also known to have organised an attempted chemical warfare attack on Tel-Aviv using paratroopers with enough poison to kill around 25 000 people. Fortunately the five paratroopers were caught before they could complete their mission.

How ironic that so much of the modern Left, in refusing to condemn militant Islam, are in reality supporting the actions of the same sort of fascists whom they claim to abhor.

Darren,
I think this post is essentially about arseholes, not about arseholes from the Left.

Some folks from the Left are not condemning fundamental Islam, some folks from the Right are not condemning fundamental Islam, and some folks from the centre are not condemning fundamental Islam.

Are all these folks "supporting the actions of the same sort of fascists whom they claim to abhor?"

@Rethabile

Some folks on the left have chosen America as their number 1 ideological enemy, for some reason, and so they sympathise with elements of Islamism, even though it's the epitome of an unholy alliance. (Or it should be.) They do it simply because it involves opposing American policy, and much of the American right (not all). They do it without even the briefest thought for who they are supporting. It is similar to how so many left wing groups support Hamas and/or are opposed to Israel...

It's not that all leftists do it (or even that it's vaguely in line with *any* modern or classical leftist thought), but for many people on the left, attacking the US on *any* issue seems to be a fashionable thing to do these days.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend" seems to apply, while "Discretion is the better part of valour" certainly doesn't.

Those on the left who do not possess an incredibly transparent double standard for the US and everyone else invariably don't support Islamism or fascism.

Rethabile, I did say "so much of the modern Left", not all of it. As James pointed out, there are a large number of people on the left who adopt this sort of attitude, refusing to condemn militant Islam because it's seen as the current enemy of their own primary enemies.

The reason I used that wording was not because I was trying to link all of those on the left to that position, but rather I was bemoaning the fact that so many on the left have internalised it, and they are far greater in number already than I like.

Point taken. It is unfortunate that too often, politics are played on these established fronts, and that phenomena are not observed and analysed for what they are, but for how they are usually analysed by the group. Cheers.

Yes, I agree entirely with that. We are so consumed with our focus on often illusionary titles such as left-wing, right-wing, liberal and conservative that we become blinded to the real issues on which we really should have common ground.
